I understand that book two is a complete work with the backstory. At this point I do not know if this tale is included in the larger work and would not be surprised if it was. I have to admit that I've never read anything by this author before...With that being said, it makes me wonder what other books he has out that would capture my interests.
I picked up this book on for free...In fact just bought it today and was totally mesmerized by it. Before I knew it, it was over. A word of caution, this book is the first in the series, and many things pertaining to the past will be discussed slightly, and present situations/obstacles are portrayed. You will not get solid answers regarding past situations. Knowing the second book is out and reading the book description those answers about the past will be answered in the second book.
I rather enjoyed this book. I was so engrossed that I didn't realize that I was at the end...and what an ending...My curiosity is piqued wanting answers to the many questions that I have in regards to the past why did the detective throws her off the harbour, how can she see the dead, what is her purpose, and what happened to her parents.
The pace of the story was fast and steady. This author has the unique ability to simplify his world and characters with few words. The characters were made realistic, though I found myself questioning the main character in her choice of friends.
I want go through the story, but if you like spooky, I think you will enjoy this book. I've added the second book to my wishlist already. I want answers for my questions. A girl who sees the dead and dealing with the apparitions as she goes along. Especially since she doesn't want this ability.

I like a good supernatural story. I like the premise of this novel, but the execution was poor. It reads like bad young adult fiction. The dialogue is simple, and the characters have no depth. I'm shocked that this is the first in a series of eight. I'll pass on the rest.
When I read a book I expect to understand the characters and their relationship to one another. I expect a story to come to an end or at least a conclusion that leaves me wanting to read the next installment. This book does neither. The story seems to end in mid sentence as if the author decided to just stop and move on to something else. My suggestion would be to skip this book.
It started great...then ended with no warning. It felt like a gimmick to force you to buy another book. Definitely glad I got it for free!
I enjoyed this book very much and wanted to get book 2 to follow the characters but found that book 2 is actually the beginning of the story, while book 1 is the follow up. I suggest that everyone else read them in time order rather then book number order, as it will make more sense. In any case I recommend them and can't wait for book 3.
The end to this book was a huge disappointment. This is just a book that could have been one book but they divide it into three books to get you to buy them all. I was not impressed.
The lack of story, the shortness, the repetitive nature of information given, the lack of a proper ending with no closure whatsoever, lack of character development, these are just a few of the reasons I rate this short book as poor.
